Résumé/Abstract : In this talk I will first give a very general overview of the different mechanisms that are known to be responsible for the formation of rogue waves. Afterwards, starting from laboratory experiments, I will discuss the role of nonlinearity and of simplified models. I will explain a simple argument based on the energy conservation law for the Nonlinear Schrodinger equation that allows one to understand in which conditions rogue waves are more favourable to appear.
