Phenomenology of Eckart acoustic streaming
Acoustic streaming originates from the propagation and attenuation of an acoustic wave. It is used to act at a distance on fluids at various scales. Versatile applications of acoustic streaming can be found : from microfluidic channels to millimeter-size droplets and meter-long metallic alloys solidification furnaces. During this seminar, we will be interested in MHz frequencies and spatial scales of about a few dozen cm. I will explain the physical mechanism lying behind acoustic streaming for these parameters and present some of our experimental and numerical results of a straight jet in water. Scaling laws depending on the amplitude of the acoustic forcing will be derived.
