Nowadays measurements of flow velocities of incoming waves on beaches exist mostly of using acoustic instruments. These methods are limited when the sediment concentration becomes large, or for very shallow depth. The present study is using PIV on the flow in a wave flume. Waves propagate and break over a light-weight sediment beach, thus producing bed erosion and highly concentrated suspensions. Special attention has been devoted to the detection of bed erosion. Measurements in both the shoaling and swash zones will be presented.
