Abstract:
A method for treatment of boundary conditions in the Immersed Boundary Method (IBM) at
high Reynolds numbers is developed. Correct modelling of the flow field at the boundaries is
of crucial importance for the overall performance of a numerical method in CFD. Therefore a
wall model for turbulent flow close to a wall, including the logarithmic layer, is incorporated
into the IBM. This new model is implemented into the research code MGLET, developed at
TU Muenchen. Two test cases are investigated: Shear flow over an inclined plane and fully
turbulent flow over periodically arranged hills. Accurate results are obtained for interpolation
of the boundary conditions within the logarithmic layer, but interpolation within the buffer
layer will require further attention.
