3D numerical simulations of flows over curved boundaries

02/02/2018 - Jérémie Dagaut
Gravity currents have a key role in the oceanic and atmospheric circulation processes. They often occur on surfaces with complex topography. In the present study, surfaces are supposed to be curved, with a constant radius. Due to the curvature of the boundary, a centrifugal instability called the Gortler instability is expected to occur. 3D numerical simulations of flows over curved boundaries are performed using the CFD code YALES2. Two different initial velocity profiles are studied. Preliminary results are presented in order to characterize the Gortler instability for both cases.
