These experiments take advantage of planar, stereo and scanning PIV measurement capabilities at the Coriolis facility in Grenoble where the tank is either rapidly started from rest or decelerated from constant rotation. The findings will be contrasted to small-scale laminar experiments that are being performed both in Karlsruhe and at Queen’s and will offer deep insight into the scaling of rapid vorticity annihilation processes over a broad range of Reynolds numbers.
